Azerbaijani athletes must show high results and win medals at the first European Games, Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov said Apr.9 at a meeting devoted to the preparation of the sports federations of the country to the European Games.
The minister said that all conditions have been created for the athletes in order to achieve high results, the state takes great care of them.
Rahimov said that Azerbaijani athletes showed high results at the Olympic Games in London, and they must show even better results at the European Games.
The minister went on to add that the European Games is the biggest event in the history of Azerbaijan.
Everything needed to conduct them at a high level is being done, he said.
Rahimov said that all sports facilities will be commissioned in April. The necessary work to provide safety and transport is being timely implemented, he said.
The minister said that 18,000 volunteers will be working during the games.
Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
