CREDENTIALS PRESENTED TO POPE

Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Vatican, Elchin Amirbayov, presented his credential to Pope Benedict XVI, at a corresponding ceremony at the Apostle Palace. The parties also held an exchange of opinions concerning the current state of and future prospects for relations between the two states.

Following the announcement, Azerbaijan’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs reported that before the reception by the pontific, ambassador Amirbayov had introductory meetings with Vatican’s State Secretary cardinal A. Sodano, Foreign Minister L. Sandrey, Deputy Foreign Minister P. Paroleen, and the head of records service. T. Kaputo.

For his part, Pope Benedict stated that he came out in favor of excellent relations between the Holy Throne and Azerbaijan, gave his regards to the friendly people of Azerbaijan, and thanked Amirbayov with his appointment as Azerbaijan’s first ambassador to Vatican.
