POLICE AVERTS UNAUTHORIZED RALLY OF AZADLIG BLOCK

The unauthorized rally of the Azadlig block on 1 October 2005 started at 16.10 p.m. The group of activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), reformists, made attempts to penetrate to the Djafar Djabbarli square from the Azadlig avenue and Hagani street side, chanting the slogans “Free Elections!” and “Resignation!”, however, they were pressed back by the police, Trend reports.

According to the preliminary report, 12 persons were arrested.

The actions’ participants gathered close to the PFPA (reformists) headquarters, located on Hagani street and tried again by the call of the party’s representative Ilham Guseynli to move forward to the square. Again the police averted this attempt. By 16.55 p.m. the street was cleared from the protesters.

The human rights activist Saida Godjamanli noted the authorities are to allot the venue for holding the rally. Together with her counterparts she is going to attend the 39-th police station where the arrested action’s participants are kept.
