Uzbekistan has introduced new excise labels with additional degree of protection for the alcohol and tobacco products imported in the country starting from April 1, 2015.

The resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan on the introduction of new excise labels was approved in February 2015.

It was earlier reported that for protection against forgery, excise labels on alcohol and tobacco products in Uzbekistan are updated every two years. Excise labels on alcohol and tobacco products were last updated in the republic in 2013.

In accordance with the decree, alcohol and tobacco products labeled with old-style excise labels which are in the wholesale and retail distribution network, are considered unlabelled after nine months from the date of introduction of new excise labels and are subject to seizure in the established order.

It was earlier reported that starting from Jan. 1, 2015, Uzbekistan increased the rate of excise duty on alcoholic beverages, pure alcohol (spirit) and beer manufactured in the country.

The excise duty on ethyl alcohol rose by 15 percent up to 4,183 UZS per one decaliter (one decaliter is equal to 10 liters), cognac, vodka and other strong alcoholic beverages - by 15 percent up to 37,605 UZS per one decaliter of the finished product.

The excise duty on natural wines increased by 5 percent up to 5,767 UZS, on fortified wines - by 10 percent up to 7,246 UZS, on beer - by 15 percent up to 4,106 UZS per decaliter of the finished product.

In addition, starting from January 1, 2015 Uzbekistan increased the minimum wholesale and retail price of alcoholic beverages (except beer).

In accordance with the decree, the minimum wholesale price for cognac for the producers increased by 18.1 percent - up to 11,100 UZS per liter, retail - by 17.5 percent (to 13,400 UZS per liter).

The minimum wholesale price for vodka and other alcoholic beverages increased by 15.4 percent - up to 9,000 UZS, the retail price - by 14.7 percent (up to 10,900 UZS per liter).

The minimum wholesale price for wine increased by 15.2 percent - up to 3,800 UZS, retail price - to 4,600 UZS per liter.

However, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan didn't reveal the data on the production of this product in 2014.

Excise duties on import of alcohol and tobacco products in Uzbekistan in 2015 are maintained at the level of 2014 year.
