WORLD MARKET OF AZERI GAS EXPANDS

Greece and Italy plan to sign an agreement on construction of underwater pipeline for gas supply on 4 November. The Greek Depa and the Italian Edison SpA will be involved in the construction. Italy expects to receive the Caspian gas from Greece, which will import the gas from Turkey, Trend reports.

Greece plans to receive approximately 10bn cu m gas per year. The capacity of the pipeline between Greece and Italy will comprise 11.6bn cu m per year with 818 km length. 592km of the pipeline will be built offshore, 212 km вЂ" onshore.

The gas is supposed to be transported from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field within the Stage-2. The implementation of this part of the project is to be completed late 2012.

The Depa forecasts that Greece will consume around 3bn cu m gas in 2005. The demand for gas will comprise 6.14bn cu m gas in 2010, 7.26 bn cu m in 2015.

The Turkish state Botas forecasts the demand for gas will make up 43,185bn cu m in Turkey per year. The purchase of the Azerbaijani will cover only 15% of demand. From 2010 to 2020 6.6bn cu m gas will be imported from Azerbaijan per year. Botas forecasts that in 2020 the largest gas import (24bn cu m) will fall to Russia, then Iran (9,555bn cu m).
