By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Two drilling rigs have been decommissioned in southwest Iran due to environment pollution reasons, the Pana News Agency quoted Iranian Environment Department official Mehdi Serajeddin as saying on March 11.

The Fath 67th drilling rig and the Fath 71st drilling rig have been decommissioned due to an oil leak and pollution of potable water in neighbouring villages, the official said.

Previously the two drilling rigs were decommissioned in November 2013, he said, adding that three villages in the Andimeshk neighbourhood are currently supplied with potable water by tanker.

The two rigs were operating at the Qalenar and Balaroud oil regions in Andimeshk under the supervision of the National Iranian South Oilfields Company, he noted.
