Azerbaijan reduces electricity export in first quarter

Azerbaijan exported about 188.3 million kilowatt hours of electricity in the first quarter of 2014 compared to 242.96 million kilowatt hours in January-March 2013 according to the customs declaration, the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee said on April 17.

Azerbaijan exported electricity totaling approximately $8.56 million in January-March compared to $9.73 million for the same period of 2013, according to the report.

The electricity exports in terms of quantity decreased by 22.5 percent per year, and in value by 12.02 percent.

Azerbaijan exported over 595.67 million kilowatt hours of electricity in 2013 compared to 482.7 million kilowatt hours in 2012 upon a customs declaration. Monetarily, Azerbaijan exported electricity totaling $24.85 million in 2013 compared to about $24.76 million in 2012.

Azerbaijan generated almost six billion kilowatt hours of electricity in the first quarter, which is 4.1 percent more than in the same period of 2013.

Azerbaijan's power generation system capacity has increased by 30 percent for the past five years. Currently, the index is 7,105 megawatts, which allows generating annually about 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. It is possible to annually export 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
