Tehran, Iran, Jan. 9

By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

The death of Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, leading reformist figure of Iran, former president and Expediency Council chief, will hopefully create stronger cohesion among the revolution’s forces, Mehdi Rahmanian, editor-in-chief of the reformist daily newspaper Shargh told Trend January 9.

“We hope that as his life was the source of so much good for the country, his decease brings about good changes,” Rahmanian said.

“He was a main pillar of the revolution, whose demise will surely lay some impact on the life of the Islamic Republic. I think that his absence will come as a reminder to those who treated him and other figures disrespectfully to behave differently,” he added.

Rafsanjani died on Jan. 8 at the age of 82 in a Tehran hospital due to a cardiac arrest.
