Some 12 more witnesses assisting in disclosing various crimes changed their appearance in Turkey, Turkish newspaper Sabah reported on April 15.

This action was taken for the witnesses involved in certain criminal cases not to be persecuted, according to the newspaper.

All information about 273 people, 105 of whom are witnesses, and 168 are their relatives, is kept in secret, according to the Turkish current law on witness protection.

The new passports were issued for all citizens who have changed their appearance through plastic surgery, according to the information.

Seven people changed the appearance in 2008, 42 - in 2009, 20 - in 2010, 90 - in 2011, 87 - in 2012, 39 - in 2013 and 12 people - this year, according to the statistics data.
