Redefinition of Azerbaijani capital’s boundaries proposed

Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 4

By Ilhame Isabalayeva - Trend:

During the redefinition of boundaries of Azerbaijani capital of Baku the number of the city's administrative districts may be reduced to two or three, leading researcher at the Geography Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Zakir Eminov told Trend.

He said that Baku's Sahil settlement, which has a population of 15,000-20,000 people, should become a city. This status should also be given to the Mardakan and Shuvalan settlements, the population of which has increased.

Absheron district Muhammadi village, which is located between the Zabrat and Pirshagi settlements, has greatly expanded and should get the village status, Eminov said.

The Balajari, Bakikhanov and Garachukhur settlements, where the population has also increased, should become micro-districts or residential areas of the capital.

In addition, the Ahmadli and Keshla settlements should also become residential areas, he said.

Eminov also said it will be able to prevent Baku's expansion if the statuses of settlements are reviewed.
