Some 95 percent of Iranian families are being supplied with natural gas.

Around three million families will be supplied with natural gas by March 2017, reaching the total families, to be connected to the natural gas network, to 97 percent, Iran's IRNA news agency said Aug. 31.

Iran's Oil Ministry has placed the top priority on supplying gas to the underdeveloped southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

National Iranian Gas Company official Hassan Montazer Torbati said on August 10 that some 2 billion liters of fuel is consumed per year by the province's power plants, which is valued at $1.5 billion, Iran's Shana news agency reported.

Iran will save $1.5 billion annually through supplying gas to power plants in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

"Supplying gas to the province will cost $1.5-$2 billion," he added.
