The U.S. and Europe make strategic mistakes while building relations and attaining their objectives in the Arab world due to their poor knowledge of the region, leading expert of the 'Heritage' Fund for Russian and Eurasian Studies and International Energy Policy Ariel Cohen believes.
"It seems that the governments of the United States and Europe, as it was in the case with Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Tunisia and Syria, are making strategic errors due to poor knowledge of the region and ignorance. Assessing the forces that are coming or may come (to power) in the Middle East, it can be said that these forces are hostile to both Europe and the U.S. They are called Islamist forces, and they are not tolerant of secular regimes in either in their own country or in the U.S. and Europe," Cohen said.
According to him, the United States' departure from Afghanistan and the Middle East left a springboard for the development of new forces and did not resolve the situation, which is irresponsible.
"One of the explanations is that politicians and intelligence officers of the West do not understand the causes of the conflict of tribes and forces in the Middle East, like how they do not understand Central Asia", Cohen said.
