The number of deputy chiefs of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces has increased from two to five, with the introduction of a new position - the first deputy chief of staff.

President Mikheil Saakashvili signed the changes in the charter of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces into law the day before. The document is published on the Site Laws of Georgia.

Under the changes, deputy chiefs of staff are still appointed and dismissed by the Minister of Defense of Georgia on request of the chief of staff, who in turn, is appointed and dismissed by the supreme commander of the country - the President of Georgia per request of the Minister of Defense. In case of the absence of the Joint Staff Chief, his duties are carried out by his first deputy, and in the absence of his first deputy, one of the other deputies.

The President of Georgia introduced new Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces, Colonel Irakli Dzneladze on Wednesday, December 5.
