Georgian soldiers serving in Afghanistan have already voted in the presidential election.

The Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) established two polling stations for the country's troops in Afghanistan's Helmand province with the support of the Georgian Defence Ministry. These polling stations were created at the Lezernike and Eredvi military bases.

Aside from the two polling stations, portable ballot boxes were also used in the electoral process. Service personnel at the Faizel and Palacio military bases voted with the help of these ballot boxes. The ballot boxes were transported by on MRAP armoured personnel carrier.

Safe transportation of the ballot boxes was provided by military helicopters. The election was held without any incidents.

On Monday the Defence Ministry of Georgia said that over 1500 Georgian soldiers serving in Afghanistan participated in the presidential election.

In addition to CEC members, representatives of several political parties of Georgia also participated in the observation of election.

Currently the Third Infantry Brigade of the 31st Battalion and the Batumi Separate Infantry Battalion of Georgian Armed Forces are involved in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

The presidential election in Georgia will be held on October 27.
