Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian armed forces 37 times violated ceasefire with Azerbaijan on different parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Nov. 8.
Azerbaijani positions took fire in the village of Qizilhajili of the Qazakh district from the positions located near the village of Berkaber of Armenia's Ijevan district.
Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the positions located near the villages of Qeyarkh, Qizil Oba, Namirli of the Terter district, Sarijali of the Aghdam district, Horadiz, Qarakhanbayli, Ashagi Veyselli of the Fizuli district and the nameless heights of Khojavand and Fizuli districts.
The opposing side was silenced with return fire.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
