ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 25. Over 119,000 people were evacuated as a result of floods in Kazakhstan, the country's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the XXXIII session of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan with the agenda 'Unity. Creation. Progress', Trend reports.
"In the hour of trial, our entire society rallied. As a result of the coordinated actions of the government, state bodies, and specialized services, as well as the assistance of volunteers, more than 119,000 people, including almost 45,000 children, were timely evacuated. We managed to save lives, and that's the main thing," he noted.
According to him, Kazakhstan faced a devastating natural disaster that affected half of the country.
"But in these difficult days, the unity of our people was vividly demonstrated: rescuers, volunteers, civil servants, military personnel, law enforcement officers, civic activists, representatives of business, and youth. No one stood aside from the common cause. The spirit of unity and solidarity embraced all regions of the country," added Tokayev.
To note, the floods in Kazakhstan began in March. Emergency situations were declared at the local level in eight regions of the country. Tens of thousands of people were involved in rescue operations.
