ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 25. Kazakhstan will receive 145 locally produced locomotives in 2024, Trend reports.
Thus, locomotive assembly plant Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty (LKZ) will supply 101 locomotives in 2024, in particular 57 freight, 26 passenger, and 18 switcher diesel locomotives. Since its founding, LKZ has achieved significant localization and produced more than 570 locomotives for Kazakhstan Railways, as well as for export.
In addition, Electric Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty LLP plans to supply 44 electric locomotives. In the first quarter, the plant delivered 9 electric locomotives on schedule.
Notably, updating the locomotive fleet is in line with the development strategy of the railway industry and will meet Kazakhstan’s transportation needs in full.
Meanwhile, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network (KTZ, national company) amounted to 257.3 million tons from January through December 2023, which is 5 million tons higher than in 2022. Exports increased by 9 percent to 85.8 million tons.
Furthermore, the operational freight turnover of Kazakhstan Railways reached 269 billion t-km from January through December 2023. This is 7 percent more than in 2022. Transit transportation in containers amounted to 1.028 million TEU, which is 13.5 percent more than the same period last year.
