Sepah Involved in Removing Opposition Forces from Country: Iranian Political Scientist

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend D.Khatinoglu / The Iranian armed forces Sepah have become a major strength in fighting against opposition forces. Sepah is involved in removing the opposition in the country, Mostafa Saber, an Iranian political expert functioning in Canada, said in a telephone interview with Trend on 2 October.

General Moxammadali Jafari, the chairman of Sepah, recently stated that despite US threats, Iran does not consider this danger as serious. Jafari stressed that Sepah's strategy is directed by a proposal by Ali Khamnei, a religious leader, on the removal of interior threats.

The philosophy regarding the establishment of the organization is based on fighting opposition forces within the country, Saber said. " Iran is not faced with foreign threat yet. If the United States attacks Iran, it will be done to occupy its territory. The United States is already bogged down with Iraq and Afghanistan.

US attacks on Iran cannot target state upheaval. At least, nuclear facilities will be targeted and it does not represent any serious danger for Iranian officials," Sabir said.

In connection to this, the probability of state upheaval by the opposition functioning in the country is strengthened. To remove this possibility Sepah is involved in preventing activities of dissatisfied political forces and political movements, as well as rallies.

In an interview with BBC on 1 October Ahmed Zeydabadi, an Iranian political scientist, said that the United States will not attack Iran on any condition. It can only be air attacks by missiles, whereas the Iranian authorities are not threatened by that. However, the Iranian authorities are threatened by a possible velvet revolution within the country. The Iranian Government intends to prevent the revolution by using Sepah.

Iran's armed forces 'Sepah' were founded in 1980 by the religious leader of Iran Imam Khomeny to preserve state borders and the prevention of state upheaval.
