Meeting of GUAM National Co-ordinators to be Organized

Azerbaijan, Baku, 1 April /corr. Trend S.Agayeva / The next meeting of the National Co-ordinators of the 'Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM' may probably take in May in Baku. The meeting of the National Co-ordinators will be preceded by the meeting of the experts who will come together in Azerbaijan's capital at the beginning of May to devise the agenda of the meeting of the Council of National Co-ordinators, a source at GUAM Secretariat reported to Trend by telephone from Kiev.

The meeting of the Council of National Co-ordinators is expected to focus on the institutional development and organizational activity of GUAM. In addition, discussions will be organized on the issues of the international and regional security and stability, co-operation of the GUAM participating countries ( Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) within the international organizations, especially the UNO and OSCE, and GUAM's co-operation with other international organizations and countries.

Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova established the GUAM format in 1997 during the summit of the presidents of the European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization and left it in 4 years. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev it was decided to announce GUAM an international organization with a new name of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM.
