Disagreement Generates over Title of Azerbaijan Socialist Party

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 April / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Socialist Party of Azerbaijan title, founded by Rustam Shahsuvarov, the former chairman of Communistic Party, has generated disagreement.

"Shahsuvarov reported that there is another Socialist party which has submitted its document to the Ministry of Justice for registration in 2002. However, Shahsuvarov in fact formed a new party under the very same name, despite all of my protests," Elshan Hasanov, head of Socialist party which functions under the same name, informed Trend .

According to Hasanov, in 1999, there was held a founder meeting of the Yeni Yol party and its documents were submitted to the Ministry of Justice. In 2002, a second meeting of the party was held as a result of which the structure was renamed to Socialist Party of Azerbaijan. Hasanov said the Ministry of Justice did not register the party despite the fact that the party submitted its documents five years ago. "No one is permitted to take on the name of our party. Despite the fact that we cannot pass the State registration so far, we are still functioning as the Socialist party of Azerbaijan," he noted.

According to Shahsuvarov, the initiative group of the new founded party membership was accepted to two international organizations, New York-based Communistic organization for Fourth International and London-based International Committee for work international.

Shahsuvarov said he does not wish to have any disputes over the name of the party and will re-consider the name by the decision of Ministry of Justice.
