Georgia Thanks Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan & Ukraine for their Support – Foreign Minister

Georgia, Tbilisi, 8 April, / Trend corr N. Kirtskhalia/ Georgian Foreign Minister David Bakradze voiced his gratitude to Kazakhstan for its decision not to lift the CIS sanctions regarding Abkhazia.

Previously, when Russia urged CIS countries to lift the sanctions, Astana officially stated its refusal to lift CIS sanctions regarding Abkhazia. Astana stressed its respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. According to Bakradze, Moscow's decision to take this step was so unpopular that most CIS countries did not support it.

"After Russia decided to lift the Abkhazia-related sanctions, the Georgian Foreign Ministry addressed the CIS counties for support. As a result, several CIS countries - Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Kazakhstan - refused to support Moscow's position regarding separatists and several more countries are expected to make the same statements in the near future," Bakradze said. He said that despite Russia's huge impact on CIS countries, the Commonwealth does not support Moscow's tactless and amoral position. "We thank all countries which supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia," the Minister said.
