20% of Azerbaijani Citizens Residing in Turkey Vote in Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 October / corr Trend B.Hasanov / So far, 20% of Azerbaijani citizens voted at the Azerbaijani consulate in Istanbul. "Polls began at 8:00p.m. [local time] and 20% of electors have participated in the poll," Sayyad Aran, the Azerbaijani general consul in Istanbul, told Trend .

The total number of Azerbaijani citizens, officially registered in Istanbul, comprises 551 people.

"The consulate allocated six buses to ensure the participation of voters. It will facilitate the traveling of people residing outskirts Istanbul, as well as students and other electors from the nearby cities," the consul said.

The activity of voters is normal, he said.

Presidential elections take place in Azerbaijan today. Seven candidates take part in the elections, including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of ruling New Azerbaijan Party; Igbal Agazade, chairman of opposition Umid (Hope) Party; Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party; Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party; Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party; Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.
