PA CIS Mission Satisfied with Presidential Election Process in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 October / Trend corr. N.Musayeva / The observation mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is satisfied with the presidential election process in Azerbaijan.

Mikhail Krotov, the Secretary General of the Council of Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, who is in Baku to observe the presidential elections, visited some polling stations and appreciated the election process and level of preparations to the elections.

Seven candidates are participating in the 15 October presidential elections, including Ilham Aliyev, chairman of ruling New Azerbaijan Party; Igbal Agazade, chairman of opposition Umid (Hope) Party; Fazil Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great Establishment Party; Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Unified Popular Front Party; Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Muasir Musavat Party; Fuad Aliyev, chairman of Liberal Democrat Party and independent candidate Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.

According to Krotov, the elections are taking place transparently and in calm condition. "This is indicator of stability in the country," he said.

Polling stations were open in time and ballot boxes were sealed in line with rules in observers' presence, Krotov said.
