The absence of the United States Ambassador to Azerbaijan does not reflect the current level of bilateral relations. The U.S. has not yet appointed ambassador to Azerbaijan because of the complexity of the country's bureaucratic procedures relating to the appointment of ambassador to the post, Donald Lu, Charge d'affaires of the U.S. Embassy said.

"The United States still has no American embassy in many countries around the world that are of interest to the country. The U.S. still does not appointed new ambassador to Azerbaijan. But this is not a reflection of our relationship, it costs of the American bureaucracy," he told journalists at the American Center in the Azerbaijani Languages University today.

He said the U.S.-Azerbaijan relations are very strong and Azerbaijan is of great interest to the United States. He cited the numerous mutual visits by the U.S. officials in Baku, and the visits of Azerbaijani officials to Washington as an example.

Lu expressed hope that the new U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan would soon be appointed and will arrive in the country.

"I believe that the person elected to the post of U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan will be an experienced and professional diplomat," he added.
