National Security Ministry: Persons engaged in illegal business activities and causing damage to Azerbaijani communications ministry found (UPDATE)

The Azerbaijani National Security Ministry revealed persons, who carried out business activities without the state registration and a special permit, and caused damage in the amount of about 141,000 manat to the Communications and IT Ministry, the ministry reported today.

The Azerbaijani National Security Ministry revealed persons, who carried out business activities without the state registration and a special permit, and caused damage in the amount of about 141,000 manat to the Communications and IT Ministry, the ministry reported today.

According to the information, Farid Sheykhov and Russian citizen, whose identity has not been established yet, agree to carry out illegal business activity without state registration.

In March 2010, Sheykhov and his fellows, using special equipment, connected to the equipment providing one-sided telephone conversations and owned by the mobile operator LLC "Azercell Telecom". Thus, they organized an illegal international telephone services to earn big profits. They purchased special "GSM" equipment and began to illegal activities by installing this equipment in rented apartments in the Nizami and Yasamal districts of Baku.

They purchased 112 mobile numbers of Azercell Telecom on behalf of various people and connected them to the assigned equipment in the flats. Thus, entering the Internet without passing the registration at the ATS of the Communications and IT Ministry, they organized an international one-way telephone connection to the country's internal network. The officers found the device while searching the apartments. They caused damage worth 118,000 to the Ministry.

The ministry's officers revealed another crime as a result of the operation-search activities.

In early August 2010, Turkish citizens Yilmaz Yakup and Harun Mihalic agreed to carry out illegal business activity without state registration. Using special equipment, they connected to the equipment providing one-sided telephone conversations and owned by the mobile operator LLC "Azercell Telecom". Thus, they organized an illegal international telephone services to earn big profits. They purchased special "GSM" equipment and began to illegal activities by installing this equipment in rented apartments in the Khatai and Yasamal districts of Baku. Then they rented the Internet channel and started their illegal activities.

Yakup, Mihalic and others purchased 56 mobile numbers of Azercell Telecom on behalf of various people and connected them to the assigned equipment in the flats. Thus, entering the Internet without passing the registration at the ATS of the Communications and IT Ministry, they organized an international one-way telephone connection to the country's internal network. The officers found the device while searching the apartments. They caused damage worth 23,000 to the Ministry.

The ministry disclosed the illegal activities of persons, who specialized in information technology. At the same time, the ministry prevented a potential use of these illegal channels for criminal purposes of a transnational nature.
