Azerbaijan registers observes from 24 world countries to monitor parliamentary elections

The CEC accredited 48 international observers. These observers represent 24 world countries. The number of observers from the CIS countries is 12 people, Mazahir Panahov, the CEC chairman, said at a meeting.

He said that the CEC received 1,080 applications to monitor the elections in the country. All applications were taken positively.

Panahov said that about 1,438 appealed to the Central Election Commission to participate in elections.

"About 1,411 people took the subscription lists, 1,099 - returned these lists. The candidatures of 490 people were registered," Panahov said.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.
