Azerbaijani diplomat appointed member of Governing Board of European Wergeland Centre

The Azerbaijani Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe (CoE), Ambassador Arif Mammadov, was appointed a member of the Governing Board of the European Wergeland Centre upon CoE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland's presentation, the Council reported.

The Azerbaijani Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe (CoE), Ambassador Arif Mammadov, was appointed a member of the Governing Board of the European Wergeland Centre upon CoE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland's presentation, the Council reported.  

According to the agreement on cooperation between the CoE and Wergeland Centre, three of the seven members of the Governing Board should be presented by the Secretary General of the CoE.

Mammadov is chair of the CoE Committee of Ministers' Rapporteur Group on Education, Culture, Sport, Youth and Environment.

The European Wergeland Centre is a European resource centre on education for intercultural understanding, human rights and democratic citizenship. It is established in cooperation between Norway and the Council of Europe. The centre is located in Oslo, Norway.

By providing in-service training, carrying out and supporting research, creating networks, serving as a platform and disseminating information and good practices on the field, the Centre aims at becoming a leading professional body of its kind.
