President Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan to ensure visa-free regime for Turkish citizens upon list
Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 13
Trend: Azerbaijan will abolish visas for certain categories of Turkish citizens.
"We have decided that at the first phase, Turkish citizens' visa-free entry to Azerbaijan will be ensured on the basis of a list to be compiled by the Ministry of Economy," Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said, Turkish TV channel TRT Haber reported on Nov. 13.
The President made the remarks at a press briefing on Wednesday after the third meeting of the Supreme Council on the Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Ilham Aliyev stressed that every country, including Azerbaijan, has its visa policy.
"However, the visa-free regime will be imposed as an exception for scholars, athletes, businessmen, famous people, and Turkish citizens, closely related to Azerbaijan," the President said. "This issue will be resolved soon, and I am sure there will be no need to talk over these issues in the future."
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the briefing today that the issue of abolishing the visa regime for scholars, students and businessmen was discussed during the third session of the Supreme Council on the Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
