The democracy in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan differ in a qualitative sense, the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish told journalists on 13 October 2005, Trend reports.
He noted it is improper to parallel between the two post-Soviet states. “It is easily seen, that the democracy in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan differ from each other qualitatively”, he noted.
The diplomat noted, the US government will call on the authorities and the opposition to the dialogue. The diplomat also said the sides should not resort to violence for the 6 November fair and democratic elections.
Harnish also noted, Azerbaijan is a close US counterpart and the sides carry out active work on fighting the global terrorism.
