Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend A.Ismayilova / Mazahir Panahov, the Chairman of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), stated during talks with journalists that the election improvements in Azerbaijan would continue by the 2008 presidential elections and thereafter the elections.
Panahov commented on shortening the time-span of appeals during the elections period, which was the key topic of discussions during the last meeting between the Azerbaijani authorities, representatives of the Council of Europe's Venice Commission and OSCE in Baku. He acknowledged the possibility of improving the complaints procedures received from participants in the elections process.
Panahov also noted that the existing legal base in Azerbaijan meets international standards and takes into consideration the complaints in accordance with normal standards.
