Azerbaijani Opposition Union to Re-establish Activities Before Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Ilhamghizi / The Chairman of the Azerbaijani Islamic Party, Hajiagha Nury, has reported that the Union of Pro-Azerbaijani Forces uniting three opposition parties is to re-establish its operations.

The Union of Pro-Azerbaijani Forces was established by the Social Democratic Party, the Vahdat party and the Islamic party. The Vahdat party and the Social Democratic party later broke away from the union. Currently the Union includes the Islamic Party, the Khalg Dirchalish party (National Revival) and the Birlik party (Unity).

Nury has noted that the union did not disband despite its weak activities and will re-establish its operation prior to the elections. The Union will participate in the presidential elections 2008.

Nury added that the Islamic Party is making preparations for its congress to be held in the summer.
