Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 January/corr. Trend E.Huseinli/ Reafforestation measures have been conducted in Azerbaijan in an area of 60.700 hectares over the past six years. The deforistation cases have decreased by 34% and totalled to 32.000 cibic metres in 2007, Reafforestation Department of the Ministry of the Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan said to Trend.
The number of the wood and wood products imported to Azerbaijan in 2007 went up by 2,8 times compared to the last four years. The same figure totalled to $31,1 mln in 2002, and $87 mln in 2007.
In 2007, 501 cases have been sent to the law enforcement bodies in connection with the forest legislation violations, 139 employees of the forest protection services were dismissed for creating conditions for the deforestation and 395 people were punished.
Moreover, serious violations have been revealed in the work of four forest protection and deforistation services. The investigation document have been sent to the General Prosecutor's Office to take relevant measures.
