On June 30, the second stage - a written examination took place for 60 judge vacancies in Azerbaijan.

A total of 211 candidates attended the examination held in the Baku Sports Complex.

Each applicant should answer two questions (criminal and civil law), developed by the Judicial-Legal Council.

Applicants must be prepared for the verdict in a criminal case and resolution on a civil case. Applicants for training were provided four hours.

Results of the examinations will be checked twice, Chairman of the Election Committee of Judges (ECJ) Iman Nagiyev said. The ECJ and invited specialists will check the answers. A candidate who will gather 60 and more points on each question can participate in the next step - the oral examination.

Candidates who successfully completed this stage will pass long-term training, after which they will take written and oral examinations. Applicants who will succeed in all stages will take part in the competition.

Test examinations with candidates took place on May 7. Representatives of local NGOs and international representatives monitored the examinations. Some 213 people of 438 applicants participating in the examination scored 60 and more points, thus obtaining the right to participate in the second stage of the competition. Papers with the candidates' answers were checked immediately after the examination and were announced in the audience.

So far, the ECJ has organized two competitions for judge candidates, and as a result, 157 qualified lawyers were appointed as judges.
