A declaration on ethical media guidelines dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the organisation OANA's 50th Anniversary Ethical Guidelines Declaration, was adopted during the jubilee meeting of news agencies in Asia and the Pacific (OANA), in Bangkok on Wednesday.

The declaration focuses on the issues of the coverage of wars, armed conflicts and acts of terrorism, violence and natural disasters that cause public concern.

In particular, the document recommends giving consideration to quality and style, of writing material that does not encourage violence, does not spread fear, nor cause physical harm or discriminates, but respects privacy, consistent to the principles of equality, justice and universal human rights.

The declaration also recommends avoiding close-ups of dead or wounded people, mutilated bodies or anything that violates human dignity.

Members of OANA, taking into account the importance of these ethical principles, undertake to work closely with the implementation of this Declaration.

OANA was formed on Dec.22, 1961, as the result of a UNESCO and UN initiative. Today, the OANA brings together 44 news agencies from 35 countries. Trend became am OANA full member in November 2010 at the 14th General Assembly of the organisation in Istanbul

The Deputy Director General of Trend in International Relations Elchin Huseynov will participate at the meeting.
