Azerbaijan held the 3rd Baku International Theatre Conference, the website of Euronews TV Channel said.

The conference was devoted to the realities of the modern theater and aspects of the struggle for the viewer.

Among the key speakers invited to the conference was Polish film, theatre and opera director Krzyszof Zanussi.

"For a real world, the room is shrinking, we are more and more dependent on the virtual world and the virtual world has another notion of time," he said. "That's what happens here and now, it happens only in theatre."

Conference participants got acquainted with the theatrical life of the capital of Azerbaijan, in particular, they highly appreciated a performance called Shah Qajar, put on by Azerpasha Neymatov.

The performance takes place on the stage of the State Academic National Drama Theater.

The very title of the conference "The place of theatre in the system of multiculturalism and universal values" shows that the theme of both universal and national values is relevant today for many theatrical traditions.

Directors from more than 40 countries have been taking part in the International Theatre Conference in Baku to discuss the new challenges they face.

"It was a marathon, in which prevailed the free exchange of opinion, rather than strict adherence to the thematic structure," the EuroNews reporter from Baku Wolfgang Spindler said. "Participants shared their experience, their feelings, their knowledge, it was all very interesting. Fortunately, the theater is alive, and yet more alive than a conference about the theater."
