The Azerbaijani women’s artistic gymnastics team has a fairly good skill level, said the Islamic Solidarity Games Technical Delegate from the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG), two-times Olympic champion, world champion in artistic gymnastics Liubov Burda Andrianova.
She noted that she has been familiar with Azerbaijani female gymnasts for a long time.
Andrianova said that women’s artistic gymnastics is not very popular in most Muslim countries, but its inclusion into Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games may help to promote this gymnastics discipline in the region.
She also noted that good conditions were created in Baku for holding gymnastics competitions, and the city’s National Gymnastics Arena is one of the most modern in the world.
The Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games, the opening ceremony of which will take place May 12, started May 8 and will last until May 22 in Azerbaijan’s capital on 16 sports grounds in 20 kinds of sports - 17 Olympic ones and three non-Olympic ones.
