TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 11. The EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar is set to visit the Fergana region to evaluate the progress of an EU-funded project aimed at fostering innovation in Uzbekistan's agricultural sector, Trend reports.

The visit is scheduled to take place on October 15-16.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is focused on supporting smallholder farmers to adapt to the challenges posed by climate change while promoting sustainable and economically viable farming practices.

During his two-day visit, Ambassador Klaar will meet with farmers, researchers, and key stakeholders in the districts of Kuva, Oltiarik, Dangara, and Besharik, where several innovations have already been successfully introduced under the project. These include drought-resistant cotton and mungbean varieties, solar-powered drip irrigation systems, and sustainable fish farming practices. The ambassador will witness firsthand how these innovations are helping to modernize agriculture in Uzbekistan while ensuring its sustainability.

The project, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Uzbek research institutes, aims to empower farmers with the knowledge and financial support needed to improve their resilience to climate change. The initiative is also designed to enhance food security and contribute to the country’s broader agricultural development goals.
