BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 11. Another meeting was held today in Madrid as part of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Spain, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said, Trend reports.

It was noted that the Azerbaijani delegation at the meeting was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, and the Spanish delegation was headed by Secretary of State for Foreign and International Affairs Diego Belio Martinez.

The current state and prospects for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Spain in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres were discussed during the meeting. The importance of continuous political dialogue and, in particular, the importance of holding high-level meetings and mutual visits was emphasized. The importance of developing an appropriate legal framework for expanding cooperation in various areas was noted.

The importance of Azerbaijani-Spanish interparliamentary relations was emphasized, in particular the benefits of mutual visits and the intensification of contacts in bilateral and multilateral areas were noted. The importance of economic cooperation in relations between the two countries, in particular mutual trade and the activities of Spanish companies in Azerbaijan, was also noted. The expediency of using cooperation opportunities in such areas as trade diversification, investment promotion, alternative energy, transport, high technology, and agriculture was emphasized.

It was noted that contacts in the humanitarian sphere, including cooperation in education, culture, as well as exchanges in the field of tourism are useful for strengthening international contacts.

The focus was on issues on the international agenda, including continued cooperation in multilateral formats. The Spanish side was informed about preparations for the session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in November 2024 in Azerbaijan.

In addition, the Spanish side was informed about the situation in the region in the post-conflict period and the steps taken by Azerbaijan towards establishing lasting peace, as well as the mine problem in the territories liberated from occupation and the large-scale restoration and construction work carried out there.

During the visit, F. Rzayev also met with other Spanish officials and took part in roundtable discussions with researchers and experts.
