BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 10. The availability of adequate financing is the key to the global success in the fight against climate change, the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Simon Stiell wrote on his social media account, Trend reports.
“The upcoming COP29 climate conference in Baku should be favorable. It is about achieving concrete results to start turning the climate commitments made by countries under last year's UAE Consensus (COP28) into reality,” he noted.
According to Stiell, “the world can only prevent the climate crisis from devastating all economies, including even the largest and wealthiest, if every country has the means to take much stronger action on climate change.”
“Finance is key among the concrete results needed this year. The new ambitious target is entirely in the interest of every country and every economy,” he emphasized.
To note, the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC takes part in the Pre-COP events kicked off on 10 October in Baku.
The capital of Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change on November 11-22.
