ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 10. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced significant strides in transit and transportation collaboration between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan during a recent briefing, Trend reports.

He highlighted the favorable conditions being established for efficient transit interactions, which have led to a consistent increase in cargo volumes across both nations.

Tokayev noted, "Last year, the volume of rail freight between our countries increased by 20%, reaching approximately 1.5 million tons. A pivotal role in this growth is played by the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, which serves as a crucial link in the North-South transport corridor."

Efforts are underway to improve the road infrastructure at the border of the two countries, particularly along the Turkmenbashi-Garabogaz route. Tokayev also revealed discussions on the promising prospects of constructing a new railway route connecting Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan. The two sides are engaged in detailed negotiations regarding this project.

In addition to rail transport, the leaders agreed to explore the possibility of quickly resuming regular air services between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. "All these steps are aimed at further strengthening the transport connectivity between our countries," Tokayev emphasized.
