Georgian Finance Ministry introduces electronic payment of taxes

The Georgian Finance Ministry introduced online payment of taxes. The Finance Ministry and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID held a joint presentation of a project on business reforming on July 6.

The USAID program envisages improving the Finance Ministry's information technologies, specifically, ensuring the electronic payment of all types of taxes, creating a unified report system on the basis of customs and tax departments, as well as the incomes investigation department and developing a new of appeal system. The reform is important for the ministry, as well as for business and taxpayers, Deputy of Finance Minister Vazha Petriashvili said.

The new system will allow taxpayers to save financial resources in the amount of approximately 8 million lari, Petriashvili said.

According to the World Bank, Georgia is among top 20 countries for successful business doing and this project contributed it greatly, Petriashvili said.

Work on the project has lasted several years, USAID Acting Director for Caucasus Joakim Parker said. It will help the Finance Ministry to simplify certain procedures. Electronic filling of declarations and appeals will simplify the taxpayers' work.
