Industrial production increases almost by 4 percent in Azerbaijan

In January-August 2009, the amount of industrial production [produced goods and rendered services] in Azerbaijan composed 13. 576.7 million manat, which is 3.9 percent more than the same period of 2008, State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan reported.

During the report period, the amount of production in the extractive industry increased by 6.3 percent to 10,021.2 billion manat (73.8% of the gross industrial production). At the same time the growth rate in the processing industry declined by 6.8 percent to 2, 775 million manat (20.4 percent), and in power engineering, gas and water sectors - 780.5 million with a decrease of 7.1 percent.

The growth in the oil production was 6.3 percent, in gas production - 0.6 percent, but a 9.5 percent reduction was recorded in oil refinery.

During the report period, the production of transport equipment increased by 12.3 percent, food (including alcohol and tobacco products) - 1.5 percent and the pulp and paper production and typographic work - over 2.5 times.

The share of private sector in total industrial production amounted to 79.2 percent (10, 756.9 million) for the eight months. Growth in the private sector was at 7.3 percent and state industry declined at 7.3 percent.
