Turkmenistan approved an agreement with Italy on reciprocal investment protection, the official Turkmen source said.

Turkmenistan approved an agreement with Italy on reciprocal investment protection, the official Turkmen source said.

He said the country's parliament approved the draft decree "On ratification of Agreement between Turkmen Government and the Government of Italy on the support and protection of investments" at the regular meeting.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's official visit to Rome in November 2009 has given the dynamism of economic relations between the two countries.

A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in fuel and energy sector was signed with Italian oil and gas company Eni within his visit.

According to these agreement, Eni is ready to conduct a number of researches aimed at development of oil and gas potential of Turkmenistan. The company also organizes training for Turkmen specialists and supports Turkmenistan in its efforts to join Pakistani and Inidan markets with its energy resources.  

Eni collaborates with Turkmenistan from 2008 through absorption of shares of Burren Energy (UK).
