Azerbaijan announces invitation for prequalification on WB railway project

JSC "Azerbaijani Railways" announced an invitation to prequalify for the procurement under World Bank project to support the Rail Trade and Transport in Azerbaijan.

The invitation for prequalification to prepare design includes maintenance and installation of 25-kilovolt system, including substations, as well as power, installation in two phases.

Concerned companies must have sufficient capacity and experience. Companies must submit an application for a list of pre-qualification documents at the address: Str. Dilyara Aliyeva, 230, and pay 150 manat ($188).

The total cost of the railway project is $673 million. The World Bank granted a credit worth $450 million to finance the project. The Board of Directors of the World Bank approved the draft March 27, 2008. The credit for improving the rail infrastructure is allocated under the terms of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for 17 years, including four-year grace period.

Funds from the loan will be used to purchase new locomotives, railway transfer from DC to AC, the reconstruction of the communication system and signal system, overhaul of 240 kilometers of roads, introduction of international financial reporting system.
