Turkmenistan determines raw cotton procurement amounts for 2010

Turkmenistan determined amounts of raw cotton procurement in 2010 at over one million tons, which is planned to gather in a harvest from an area of 550,000 hectares.

"This year the weather is propitious for cotton, the successful spring passed virtually without reseeding, summer was good, with high temperatures," local media outlets quote sources in the ministries of agriculture and water resources.

Only nine mediumfibrous sorts were planted in 2010.The most common of them is the well-established domestic "Eloten-7".

Fine-fibre cotton has four native varieties, which are planted on more than 27,000 hectares in the south - Mary and Akhal provinces.

These days, works are underway to care for cotton crops, an intense accumulation of the crop is being conducted. The cultivation of cotton is one of the most complex on agrotechnology, but return is also high - natural cotton fiber and its products are highly valued in the global market.

The "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper writes that plant chasing is underway at the cotton plantationsat the moment. They have already reached the optimum level of green mass.
