IMF publishes forecast on inflation in Azerbaijan in 2010

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecast 5.5-percent inflation in Azerbaijan in 2010 compared to the previously forecast 4.7 percent, according figures published on the official IMF website.

Based on the IMF's World Economic Outlook forecast, inflation in Azerbaijan will hit 6 percent in 2011 compared to the previously forecast 3.5 percent. The inflation forecast for 2015 remained largely unchanged at 3 percent. In 2009, the figure amounted to 1.5 percent. In October 2009, the IMFs primary prediction of this index was 5.3 percent for 2010.

The current account surplus in the payments balance will amount to 24.1 percent of GDP in 2010 compared to the previously projected 25.3 percent. The forecast of this index for 2011 is 22.2 percent compared to the April forecast of 24.2 percent and for 2015 - 21.1 percent compared to 23.7 percent.

The current account surplus in the payments balance amounted to 23.6 percent of GDP in 2009. According to the IMF's 2009 October Outlook, the fund predicted a positive current account surplus in the payments balance at 23.1 percent of GDP for 2010.

Earlier, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has also revised the inflation forecasts for Azerbaijan, were reduced the figure from 5.8 percent to 5 percent in 2010 and from 6 percent to 4 percent in 2011. The update also includes changes to the forecast on the current account surplus from 23 percent to 29 percent in 2010 and from 21.7 percent to 27 percent in 2011.
