Tariffs for rail transport should be raised, the Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said today. He didn't voice any specific figure.
According to him, it is necessary, because the railways must carry out self-financing to address their own social problems, ensure development of its technical base.
At present, the cheapest transportation in Azerbaijan is carried out by the railroad.
"The cost price of rail transport is very high. Annually subsidies are granted for freight transportation by railway, which is unacceptable in fact. (...). Therefore, the tariffs should be increased," Mammadov said.
