Turkey is interested in establishing a joint free economic zone with Azerbaijan, deputy director of department on free economic zones at the Secretariat for Foreign Trade of Turkey Necmi Ugurlu told Trend on Jan. 12.

According to him, Azerbaijan has not yet appealed for the establishment of FEZ.

"In case of receiving a relevant appeal, we will begin work on establishing a free economic zone. Especially in the case of Azerbaijan, it is not as problematic as with Iran," said Ugurlu.

He said according to Turkish law, there are substantial tax benefits for businessmen operating in the free economic zone.
"They are exempted from customs duties and VAT. Rates on all other taxes are significantly reduced. The big benefits are granted to those who build their production directly in FEZ and invests there," said Ugurlu.
