It is planned to attract foreign partners for the implementation of the 20-year programme for the development of the Baku Metro, president of Azerbaijan Tunnelling Association and chairman of the JSC Azertunelmetrotikinti Shaig Efendiyev told reporters on Wednesday.

It is planned to attract foreign partners for the implementation of the 20-year programme for the development of the Baku Metro, president of Azerbaijan Tunnelling Association and chairman of the JSC Azertunelmetrotikinti Shaig Efendiyev told reporters on Wednesday.

According to him, negotiations with potential participants will be held during the congress and exhibition of tunnelling and underground infrastructure of cities which will be held in Azerbaijan during September 10 - 11.

The initiators of this forum are the Azerbaijan Association of tunnels which has been a member of the World Association of tunnels and the only representative in the region since 2011.

Baku Metro has been operating since 1967 and has 23 stations. Earlier a 20-year programme of Baku Metro development had been adopted. In accordance with the long term development scheme, in the future the overall network will consist of five lines compared to the current two.
