Uzbekistan announces tender for increasing capacity of glass plant

Uzbek Mekhnat LLC (Tashkent province), the largest wine-making producer in the republic has announced a tender for increasing the capacity of the Asl Oyna plant for production of glassware with the starting price of 11.3 million euros.

Uzbek Mekhnat LLC (Tashkent province), the largest wine-making producer in the republic has announced a tender for increasing the capacity of the Asl Oyna plant for production of glassware with the starting price of 11.3 million euros, the LLC said.

In accordance with the tender terms, the winner will have to deliver a "turnkey" glass melting furnace with the capacity of 120 tons of glass melt per day, as well as associated equipment, the LLC said. The newly constructed furnace will double the plant's capacity. The implementation time of the project is one year.

The tender bids will be accepted until Feb.24 and the results of the tender will be announced in late March. The project will be financed by the plant's owners.

In 2009 Mekhnat LLC commissioned nearly $30 million worth of glassware products from the Asl Oyna plant. The designed capacity of the plant amounts to 150 tons of glass melt per day and 126 million units of glassware per year. German HEYE-Glass Winkler & Co. is the supplier of "turnkey" equipment.

Currently, Mekhnat LLC accounts for some 40 percent of Uzbekistan's wine-making market. The enterprise also produces beer, mineral water and juice.

According to the Food Industry Association of Uzbekistan, the total demand of the republic's enterprises for glassware is 650 million units per year with disposable use.

According to the official statistics, in 2013, Uzbekistan increased the production of vodka and liquors by 5.8 percent to 13.402 million dal, cognac by 18.3 percent to 126,400 dal, and beer by 4.9 percent to 19,224 million dal. Wine production dropped by 0.6 percent to 2.238 million dal, the champagne production remained at last year's level of 127,500 dal.
